PLANS to turn a derelict Worcestershire pub into five homes has been revealed.

The New Inn on Main Road, Cropthorne, could become five homes after plans were submitted to Wychavon District Council.

The watering hole has been closed for eight years after it was sold in 2015 due to the business not being financially viable for its former owners.

It was then taken over, and minor renovation was carried out, but it remained closed due to its new owners struggling to find enough staff.

The main body of the existing building will be converted into two new dwelling units, while the other sections will then be transformed into the other three.

An extension is also proposed for an additional bedroom.

A spokesperson for the applicant P Scully said: "In 2015 and 2016, the current owner submitted planning applications to extend the building and has carried out the work, including internal alterations.

"The refurbished property now has ample seating for dining, new kitchens and a new server.

"Despite the work which has been undertaken, the owner has not managed to find a manager, tenant or staff, and the building has now remained closed for eight and a half years.

"The village is served by another public house less than 500 metres from the applicant's property.

"As such, the village has the amenity of a public house, and it is considered that a second establishment is not viable."

The existing car parking areas will be removed under the plans and turned into gardens and visitor parking areas.

Its stone overspill car park will also be removed and turned into a private parking area.

The rear garden area will include cycle storage.

One resident, Nikki Moran, commented on the application on behalf of three other residents.

She said: "We have no objections to the plans for its redevelopment into five separate plots, other than it is a shame the property will not reopen as a pub.

"We and other locals and visitors have enjoyed decades of memorable and happy times in that pub and have been looking forward to its reopening for several years."

The consultation period for the application ends tomorrow (February 15).
