A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for Worcestershire by the Met Office with strong winds set to hit the region.

The warning has been issued for today (Monday) with gusts of wind predicted to reach between 40 and 55mph that may cause some disruption.

The Met Office has warned that bus and train services could be affected, with journeys taking longer than expected.

It also warned that there could be a short-term loss of power, advising people to prepare in advance by gathering essential items such as torches, batteries and a mobile phone power pack.

People are also recommended to amend travel plans if necessary by checking the road conditions before driving or taking buses and trains to avoid delays.

As well as the city, the weather waring covers the majority of the UK, including Northern Ireland.

The Met Office said: "A depression will move east just to the north of Scotland through Monday and will bring a swath of strong winds to Northern Ireland, Wales and much of England.

"Gusts of between 40 and 45 mph are expected widely inland with isolated gusts as high as 50 to 55 mph on exposed coasts and near to heavier showers.

"This is likely to lead to some disruption and longer journey times.

"Winds will slowly ease through the evening and first part of Monday night."

What to expect

  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
