A new headteacher has arrived at a Worcestershire school and she is enjoying her first headship after 15 years of teaching.

Elmley Castle CE First school welcomed new headteacher, Rachel Penney to the ranks on April 8.

Mrs Penney said: "I am delighted to be here as this is a really beautiful place to learn.

"There is so much space and it's a really good place for a child to be.

The school is currently rated as good by Ofsted, but she aims to go on a journey with the school to reach outstanding.

Having only been at the school for less than two weeks, Mrs Penney said: "I may have only been at the school for ten days, but the staff are an absolute credit to the school, the learning that they provide is fantastic.

"The school is really inclusive and accepting of children with different needs, staff embrace the children and help them to thrive.

"This is my first headship after 15 years of teaching children at primary age and I am very excited, it just feels like a natural fit.

"It's such a privilege to lead and help not only the children but their families as well to become the best versions of themselves.

On her arrival she held a welcome breakfast with the children including team challenges and cereal box dominoes.

Out of this,100 boxes of cereal were donated by the school to the Pershore food bank to teach the children that learning does not only happen in the classroom.

Mrs Penney came to Elmley Castle from a bigger school in Gloucestershire, however her grandfather lived locally to the school and she has walked up Bredon Hill for "every year she has been alive".

Mrs Penney continued: "There are still spaces left for at the school for September.

"I would be absolutely delighted to show anyone the magic in action."
