THE Chipping Campden based Campden & Chorleywood Food Research Association (CCFRA) has merged with Surrey-based Brewing Research International (BRI).

The new organisation has ann-ounced that it will now be known as Campden-BRI.

With 380 staff, the new entity will offer the food and drink sector a comprehensive range of research and development, technical services, analysis and training.

BRI members will benefit from CCFRA’s scientific input in many areas including microbiology and packaging technology, with CCFRA members now able to access BRI’s expertise in the science and technology of alcoholic drinks.

Campden-BRI director general Colin Dennis described the merger as bringing together two world-class organisations. “It will help us grow at home and abroad and build our reputation as a first-rate research and technology organisation,” said Professor Dennis.

Established in 1947, BRI is based in Nuffield, Surrey. It has 60 staff, a £3.5 million turnover and provides technical services for the brewing and wine making industry worldwide.

CCFRA was formed in 1919 and has a turnover of £14m. Its 310 staff include 20 in Budapest.

An independent organisation, it carries out research and development for many industries associated with agriculture, ingredients, packaging and equipment, food and drink manufacture, distribution, retailing and food service.

n In partnership with the International Agri-Technology Centre, Campden-BRI has been awarded a contract by UK Trade & Investment to help the UK’s agri-food technology industry promote and develop its international trade potential.
