THE British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) has welcomed the development of a new qualification by City & Guilds which gives people a new way to find out more about live quarry shooting.
The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Live Quarry Shooting is for those who wish to take it up for fun or want a job in game management or conservation.
It is designed to ensure students have a basic understanding of shooting and its related activities as a countryside sport.
It covers law, shotgun shooting, shoot management, including conservation work, and the care and maintenance of shotguns.
Peter Marshall, BASC’s director of shooting standards, said: “We have set the standards and provided a defined entry point into the sport. This will encourage more people to take up shooting and ensure that they do so in a safe and informed manner.”
