Planned wind farm 'will kill the Vale countryside'

THE SKYLINE of the Vale of Evesham will be dominated and the countryside killed if a wind farm is built in Lenchwick, a newly-formed group has warned.

Vale Villagers Against Scottishpower (VVASP) are urging residents to find our more about the multi-million pound project - which could see up to 10 turbines, each 410 ft (125m) tall built in the Lenchwick area.

The group has been set-up by concerned villagers and they are encouraging people to visit their website, www.stoplenchwickwindfarm.org.uk, to get the facts.

Campaigner Erica Page said: “I feel very strongly that local people need to be aware of what is going on, see some facts and then they can make their own decision.

“I am one of the ones who realised how big this is for the rural area. It is the wrong place because it is such a small area.”

Mrs Page emphasised VVASP was a pro-renewables group worried about the impact a wind farm would have on the Vale, not a protest group.

It met with Mid-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff in Lenchwick on Monday to give him a clear view of the proposed sites, which include Church Lench, Harvington, Norton, Lenchwick and Badgers Hill.

Mr Luff said: “It was time I got out there to see where it could be going and it was a very helpful discussion. I have not fully appreciated the scale of what is planned.

“Until I talk to Scottishpower Renewables about what exactly is intended and get the views of the parish councils involved I will be very cautious about taking a position.”

Mr Luff will meet with the developers on Tuesday, December 9 to discuss the proposals.

VVASP has arranged a series of drop-in sessions for people to attend to find out more about wind farms.

They will take place on; Tuesday, December 2 at Church Lench Village Hall, Tuesday, December 9 at Harvington Village Hall and Wednesday, December 10 at Bishmapton Village Hall, all from 7.30pm - 9.30pm.

The windfarm planned for the area of Hipton Hill and beyond is a big mistake. Will this create noise pollution, perhaps a swishing noise such as cars create one after another along motorways. The loss of such beautiful scenery will be shocking. I know the area very well as Norton was not only my home, but my grandfathers home as well for many years. I spent many happy hours walking and riding my bike all around the Lenches and Lenchwick. Surely a Windfarm would be much better upon a larger escarpment away from residential areas. This is a most unwise move. Please in heavens name rethink this through!
