VALE postal workers have called on the public to get behind them as they prepare to go on strike.
Posties have appealed to residents to back them in their fight for fair reform at Royal Mail and claim that instead of focusing on them, changes should be made at management level.
An Evesham postman, who asked to remain nameless, said that postmen just like him up and down the country were being forced into a strike. He said: “In the last five years we have lost 65,000 postmen, 3,000 sub-post offices, Sunday collection and second delivery, without losing one manager. We have bent over backwards for reform and been ready for any changes they want to make.
“We aren’t just postmen but also members of the public who rely on the post, but it’s got to the stage where if we don’t do something Royal Mail will be gone.”
The strike will take place tomorrow. Royal Mail describes the strikes are ‘irresponsible’ and plans to draft in 30,000 extra workers to cover.
