A PRESTIGIOUS gala evening is being organised for the ever-growing Pershore Plum Festival.
Number 8 Community Arts Centre.will be the venue for the event on Saturday, July 24, a week before the launch of the month-long festival, culminating with-day long activities on Plum Fayre Day on August Bank Holiday Monday.
“We plan to have an evening of songs from the movies and musicals presented by well-known local people,” said Judith Synnuck.
“During the evening the entries for the Pershore Plum Princess will parade in front of the judges and we also hope to have Queen Victoria Plum there.”
She added: “It promises to be a wonderful evening and I am confident of having a complete sell-out of the theatre for the event.”
Following the launch of the festival on Saturday, July 31, events are being organised for every Saturday during August, including plum tastings and advice in Plum Alley in Chapman Court.
Chairman Angela Tidmarsh, Wychavon tourism officer, said a full programme was being drawn up for Plum Fayre Day. which attracted 12,000 visitors last year.
“An article about the plum festival is included in the Vale Trail leaflet and 30,000 will be distributed,” she said.
Mrs Tidmarsh said Trevor Harrison, who plays Eddy Grundy in The Archers, would open the Plum Fayre and The Archers Addicts would also be a feature of the day.
During the August Bank Holiday weekend, the Abbey Ablaze event will take place as well as the beer festival at the Angel.
To encourage visitors to visit all parts of the town, four walks will be marked, starting from Plum Alley. “The whole idea is to get people moving around Pershore and into shops, restaurants and pubs,” said John Gregson.
