GREAT Britain international triathlete Lee Perry was named Senior Sports Personality of the Year at last Friday's Wychavon Parish Games presentation evening.

The Evesham College tutor represented his country at the World Biathlon Championship in South Africa, finishing a splendid 12th.

He has also qualified for the national squad that will compete in next year's World Cham-pionships in Canada.

Another local youngster making a name for himself at national level is fencer Alexander Most - the new Junior Sports Personality.

The teenager earned selection for Britain's under-17 and under-20 Foil team and finished third in the British Youth Championships.

Alexander has also represented the West Midlands and earned county recognition, while embarking on A level studies at Prince Henry's High School.

Evesham Swimming Club stalwart, Jean Deakins, was given a special award for Services to Sport.

She has been on the coaching staff at the club for 20 years and has helped produce many exceptional swimmers who have gained honours at county, district and national level.

The success of the club is entirely due to its development policy designed by Jean and implemented by the coaching staff over the years.

This year's Team Awards went to the junior team at Avon Valley Basketball Club and Pers-hore Cricket Club's first team who won the Worcestershire Sunday League title.

Representatives from many parishes were present and it was Evesham Bengeworth who collected the Winners Silver Salver for the champion parish.

Bretforton won the Mitchell and Butler Cup for finishing runners-up with Crowle picking up the Group 4 Total Security Cup - an Award of Merit.
