Air gun legislation warmly welcomed

legislation to prevent airguns falling into the hands of children has been welcomed by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation as common sense.

Bill Harriman, BASC’s director of fire-arms, said: “Young people who are legally allowed to use airguns are not be affected. Airgun safety is a matter of good sense and good practice and all legitimate users are aware of safety precautions including access and storage.

“The Government’s impact assessment document took a sensible and pragmatic view of the sort of security required – a lockable cupboard, or a device to lock the airgun.

“They estimated that such security would cost in the region of £10.”

Why not just get rid of airguns, they perform no useful purpose and appears only to be used for killing song birds and injuring cats.
There are too many in the hands of children, purchased for them by irresponsible parents.

Firstly I also welcome any moves to make it harder for
Children to access air rifles, and now nearly all air rifle
Manufactures supply a trigger lock with each new rifle sold to improve secruity.
i dont agree that getting rid of them will serve any purpose,
Other then to drive them under ground and cause even more
Problems. I have been shooting air rifles for a number of years now and it
Is the minority not the majority that cause trouble with the shooting of
Pets and beautiful song birds. I do shoot vermin and also target shoot
At an approved target club and to ban them would stop legitimate and safe shooters
From enjoying a long established sport.
