AUDIENCES at The Riverside Food Festival last week agreed Evesham’s gastronomic future is looking bright as they watched four promising young cooks battle it out in a competition for the coveted ‘Riverside Junior Chef Factor’ trophy.

Armed with bowls and whisks the finalists made their version of the dessert ‘Evesham Mess’ in front of a live audience.

Simon Styan, 11, Harry Hopkins, 11, Benjie McKenna, 9, and Zara McKenna, 6, all competed in front of judge, Felice Tocchini, chef at Brassier Fusion, who declared Simon and Benjie as joint winners.

He said: “The children used local dairy products and seasonal fruit in their recipes and they understood the importance of fresh ingredients from nearby sources in Worcestershire.“ The festival also caused a stir amongst the local food producers as they showcased their wares, handing out samples to visitors.

Lisa Hopkins, Centre Manager of Riverside Shopping Centre, said: “The Vale of Evesham is the Garden of England and provides employment to our residents whilst producing food enjoyed by the whole of the nation.”
