THIEVES broke into a village post office and emptied a safe containing cash and foreign money in an early morning burglary.

The offenders broke into a domestic property on Kemerton Road at 4.45am on Saturday morning and accessed the post office through the house.

They made off with an unknown amount of cash and Euros, which were taken from within a safe, along with a quantity of stamps.

DC Kelly Browning said: “Forensic officers have been at the property and detectives are currently reviewing CCTV.

“If anybody saw any suspicious activity or vehicles in Kemerton in the week prior to the burglary we would like to hear from them.”

Kemerton post office reopened for business on Tuesday after the weekend burglary.

A Post Office Ltd spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a robbery took place at Kemerton post office near Tewkesbury last week.

Thankfully no one was injured.

“Staff and customers can be assured that their safety and security, as well as that of our subpostmasters and our branches, is of paramount importance to us.

“This is now a police matter and we urge anyone with information to contact police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
