THE silence over Evesham Bridge continues. Is this because of the problems following the Tenbury bridge closure, where temporary car parking is inadequate and additional spaces are required, county councillors have admitted that alternative provisions were seriously underestimated, and council-hired staff have warned there will be a disaster for that town if the parking is not resolved?

What a track record for the highway’s department overseen by Councillor Smith, following the removal of car parking spaces in Evesham High Street, and repainting Upton Bridge the correct colour. Do the county council intend to conduct any form of consultation so that people can influence, change or challenge any of the decisions to be taken by the county cabinet, or have all relevant decisions already taken behind closed doors and it is not possible to change anything?

Could I propose a solution for access to the town centre – the traffic flow in Swan Lane and Oat Street be reversed, and Mill Bank/Mill Street made two-way and lorries excluded.

I thought that the county councillors applied the principle of “localism”, as promoted by central Government of involving and enabling the local community to contribute to the decision-making process, but I fear that this is not correct as the county councillors have staunchly avoided allowing involvement in the process.

I fear that in the near future a “done deal” which cannot (or will not) be changed will be announced and imposed, and that any future consultation will be no more than a lip service, box ticking pointless exercise. No doubt, councillors’ expenses will not cover the postage cost for a reply.
