REFERRING to the article “Concern over application for pub to open until 3am” that appeared in last week’s Journal, we too have serious concerns over this matter as we live close to the Talbot and totally agree with the comments expressed by the residents in Church Street and Coun Booth.

In addition, most of the parking spaces around the Talbot are used by local residents, who do not have offstreet parking, and increased parking from customers to the Talbot could cause unauthorised parking to overflow into surrounding streets, causing a nuisance to residents and other businesses.

If door supervisors are provided, who have the authority to prevent unruly behaviour within the premises, this will only transfer any troublemakers out onto the streets and pavements where the door supervisors have not authority, and without additional police presence, pass the nuisance and crime and disorder elements onto the local residents and businesses. CCTV cameras may also be installed, but these only record what is taking place and do not stop the events happening.

As a result of the proposed late night opening, individuals from other areas where their public houses have closed could be attracted to the Talbot. I understand there are other pubs in Evesham that close at 1am at the weekends so drinkers from there could easily migrate to The Talbot in Port Street.
