A GARDEN to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee is being designed by Pershore College students for a Worcestershire village.

The new garden is being developed on a piece of councilowned land in Leigh Sinton, near Malvern.

The plot was selected from more than 80 applications after an offer by the college – reported in this newspaper – to lend the skills of its students to a worthy cause.

Students have met with parish councillors and residents and completed a survey of the site ready to create their designs.

Mike Roberts, technical academy manager for horticulture at the college, said: “I would like to thank the many people who got in touch with us following our appeal. We were stunned by the number of responses and only wish we were able to help everyone that applied.

“We selected the Leigh Sinton garden because it was a chance for the students to work with a community and design a garden that will commemorate an historic event and hopefully be appreciated for generations to come.”

He said the students were working closely with the parish council on their designs and he looked forward to seeing just how they would be received by the community.
