THE streets of Evesham, Wickhamford and Broadway will be filled with cheering crowds on Sunday when the Olympic Torch arrives.

The fun starts in Market Place, Evesham, with entertainment from 10am, ahead of the torch’s arrival at about 11.20am.

It will enter the town at Greenhill, going past Evesham Station, all the way along the High Street, Abbey Road, over Abbey Bridge and along Cheltenham Road.

It will then head out onto the A46 to Wickhamford for about noon, before it reaches Broadway at about 12.10pm.

Prunella the Plum and Aspara’Gus’ will make an appearance at Greenhill and there is a Festival of Brass on the High Street organised by the town council, who along with the chairman of Wychavon, Councillor Richard Morris will welcome the torch.

There will be a street market and performances, live music and the W Factor winners in Market Square, as well as face painters and other entertainment.

An historical buildings trail will be running from the town hall and the Almonry Museum has a sports exhibition in the afternoon.

In Wickhamford, there will be cream teas and refreshments at Wayside Farm Shop and the Dogs Trust will have a canine parade.

At Broadway, villagers will be celebrating with a strawberry market, local stalls, school performances and music.

Tracy Grubb, community development officer for Wychavon said “We’re very lucky that we have the torch coming through our district again and we’re excited to be welcoming it again.

“There will be lots going on over the whole day and we look forward to seeing everyone having fun and enjoying the entertainment. Fingers crossed for the weather.”

No parking is available on the relay route and people are advised to watch the relay as close to work or home as possible.

Worcestershire County Council is reminding residents that although no roads will be fully closed while the torch is passing through, there is likely to be increased traffic on the road which might cause delays.

People are advised allow plenty of time for journeys, park sensibly and legally, use public transport where possible and listen to local radio for regular updates.
