MET Office predictions of snow proved something of a washout (so far), in Worcester at least.

Most people in Worcester will wake up to a soggy start rather than a blanket of snow despite a yellow weather warning for the region.

However, the Met Office has warned of further outbreaks of snow in North Wales, the North Midlands and Northern England this morning.

Some parts of England have seen 2-5cm of snow overnight, mostly in areas above 150 metres. Total accumulations of 10cm are still possible in hilly areas.

Bands of rain spreading from the south have turned to sleet and snow in the colder conditions further north.

Highways gritting teams were out last night. 'Back to black' ploughs have been fitted to some of the gritters.

Cllr John Smith, Worcestershire County Council cabinet member for Highways, said: "I'd encourage anyone making journeys to take care. Snow and sleet obviously makes it more difficult for drivers so please don't take any risks. Grit has never been a miracle cure, so, as always, the message is to never assume it's safe to travel at normal speeds even if you think a highway has been treated."
