LABOUR shadow minister John Spellar visited Malvern in Monday to meet the party's local candidate Daniel Walton and give his campaign a boost.

The visit was part of a tour of the West Midlands to increase the party's profile, and before coming to Malvern, Mr Spellar has previously paid visits to the Labour candidates for Wyre Forest, Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Mid Worcestershire.

John Gallagher of the party said: "Mr Spellar said he was pleased to find great enthusiasm and energy by Labour in Malvern. Indeed, throughout Worcestershire and Herefordshire he was impressed by the response Labour is getting.

"He noted the widespread collapse in Liberal Democrat support and said undoubtedly the election is moving in our direction."

After leaving Malvern, Mr Spellar, the shadow minister at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the last Parliament, left Malvern to continue his campaigning by meeting Labour's prospective candidates for Hereford and South Herefordshire, and North Herefordshire.
