TODAY’S archive picture takes us back to 1988, and the construction of the multi-storey car park at St Martin’s Gate, Worcester.
The car park was built, at a cost of some £2,600,000, as a response to fears that the existing provision for parking in the city was inadequate.
When it was opened it later that year, it quickly became notorious for vandalism and graffiti, forcing Worcester City Council to hire security teams at a cost of £12,000 a year.
