PEOPLE have reacted to news that West Mercia Police's Chief Constable has said police should be tougher on speeding drivers.
Anthony Bangham, who is also the National Police Chiefs Council lead on road policing, has made national headlines after reportedly saying there should be an end to the 10 per cent "buffer" over the limit.
He told a Police Federation Roads Policing Conference on Tuesday that speeding awareness courses were being used too widely instead of penalty points and fines, and drivers caught speeding should "not come whingeing to us about" it.
Here's what people in Worcester had to say about the idea.
Sharon Gould
Sharon Gould, 47, said: “Speedometers aren’t accurate, it could read 30 when you’re actually going 31. So unless they’re willing to check everyone’s speedo it seems pointless.”
Michael Williams
Michael Williams, 65, said: “I think it’s ridiculous. Anyone could go 1 mile above the limit. They should just stick with the 10 per cent rule.”
Lyndon Bennett
Lyndon Bennett said: “The law is the law, although I do think he’s being a little brutal.”
Choi Hy
Choi Hy, 26, said: “For those who have a digital speedometer it’s fine, but for those who have older ones can’t rely on them as they’re often inaccurate.”
Adam Davies Hall
Adam Davies Hall, 21 said “I feel it’s a little silly, everyone makes mistakes. They need to also account for human error.”
