Evesham is set to host the second round of a national pedal car championship.

The event, round two of the 2024 British Pedal Car Championship, will be staged at the Evesham Cycle Circuit from midday to 6pm on Sunday, May 5.

Over 20 pedal cars, representing teams from across the country, will take to the track for a gripping six-hour endurance race.

In most cars, four drivers will be alternating at the steering wheel, ensuring a sustained competitive momentum throughout.

The event will also see the participation of junior drivers, family teams, and those who are in it purely for the thrill of steering human-powered racing cars on high-quality tracks.

Moreover, the upcoming competition offers the participants the final chance to fine-tune their cars and drivers before the championship’s main event, The Unusual Rigging Limited Shenington 24-Hour Pedal Car Race at the end of June.

Pedal car racing sees teams of drivers competing in single-seater human-powered cars, which could be described as "part car, part bike, part go-kart".

These races can last up to 24 hours on circuits such as Shenington and Evesham.

Encouraging team work and race craft among young people, the sport also promotes physical fitness.

Each team contains up to six members sharing the driving duties, each completing as many laps as they can before yielding to the next driver.

The participating teams come from various backgrounds, including cycling clubs, scout troops, school groups, university students, and friends looking for a fun time together.

The six-hour endurance race at Evesham is no exception to the classic race distance.

It involves one car, four drivers, and six full hours of racing on the track to achieve as many laps as possible.

The race will start at midday and end at 6pm, with the aim of securing sponsorships and raising funds for their school, youth club, scout group or favourite charitable causes.

At Evesham, the classes competing will range from open class (PC1) to exact age categories with unique specifications for the under-18s (PC2), under-16s (PC3), and under-14s (PC4).
