A VILLAGE school has welcomed not only a new intake of pupils but a new headteacher and preschool area.

Defford Cum Besford CofE First School started this school year with Andrea Bailey at the helm.

Mrs Bailey said: “The children have settled in extremely well. We have revamped the early years setting, we have a forest school on site and outdoors environment so they can access all of it.

“This is my first headteacher role. I have worked in small village schools including Ashton Under Hill, Cropthorne and Flyford Flavell and I always loved them. It was the right time for me to move on and hopefully make a difference here.”
