SHIRLEY Sheridan and Taylor came to visit us from Sight Concern, Worcester. Shirley explained that as a result of Type 1 Diabetes, she suddenly lost her sight - a devastating situation for someone with a demanding career, an active sporting social life and a husband. At first, and for some years, Shirley felt life had nothing to offer than a white stick. She had no real help or guidance on how to carry on with her life. Then she and her husband moved to Worcestershire and she discovered Sight Concern - a local charity which has turned her life around. Shirley attends regular meetings of the group and has been taught with voice-activated aids, how to carry out many everyday tasks which the rest of us take for granted. She has a specially adapted laptop and sends and receives emails and has recently taken up golf ! Best of all, Shirley has a new friend, guide and helpmate - Taylor - an adorable guide dog. Shirley is a wonderful vivacious lady, and excellent ambassador for Sight Concern.

Carol and Annie informed members of forthcoming events in the Pershore Group, a fish and chip supper with a quiz at Wyre Piddle and a visit to Cardiff in November.

Sue gave final details of arrangements for the WI Centenary Day of Celebration in September. Reg Moule - a BBC Hereford and Worcester gardening guru and Frances Benton - an expert on pearl jewellery will be our guest speakers.
