EVESHAM AND DISTRICT U3A

The December talk to Evesham & District U3A was David Howe asking "Christmas - Magic or Humbug"?

The audience was asked which opinion they favoured.

We were told of the conflicting references in the bible to the birth of Jesus, and asked why Christmas day was always 25th December. No date is mentioned in the bible.

The festive fall out mentioned, often brought about by having to visit two sets of relations over the Christmas period.

Nativity plays were then spoken about, and how there is always one child on the stage who spends a lot of time waving to parents, one child who falls off the back of the stage and one child who forgets his lines.

Some amusing children's letters to Santa were read out, one child asked for "one of everything you have got". Another said my mum says the best present you can have is good health, I have already got that so can I have a doll.

I am not sure if we decided if Christmas was magic or humbug but we certainly laughed a lot.

Please note there is no meeting at the Town Hall in January. The next meeting is February 3rd when we have a talk by John Boynton on Worcester Railways past and present, with particular emphasis on the local area.
