AS a one-time resident of Honeybourne I was pleased to read in the Journal that Wimpey is demonstrating its good corporate citizenship by contributing some £263,000 towards needed infrastructure in Honeybourne, in recognition that Wimpey derives an economic benefit from developing housing in Honeybourne.

Not only will they ensure that local bats are sustained, but they will provide cycling, recreational, and road infrastructure, as well as a new village hall.

On the face of it, this is a win-win for the developer and the residents of Honeybourne. But the devil is in the detail.

Wimpey has recognised that the sustainability of a community can only be achieved if the current generation leaves the same quality of life for the next generation.

To do otherwise would be mean-spirited.

I congratulate the Honeybourne community, and trust that they discuss with Wychavon District Council the high priority for these facilities, so that the next generation of children, and current residents, have safe cycling and road facilities, outdoor recreational facilities close by, and traffic calming measures on Station/Weston Roads.

A new village hall is a bonus.
