I READ with interest your article on improvements on the Cotswold line (March 26).
Interestingly, the fastest journey from Worcester to London in 1922 was just 2hr 15min (admittedly non-stop). Today it is 2hr 17min.
Surely we can expect better than a reduction of seven minutes with modern trains?
As for new trains, most services are operated currently by HST 125 or Adelante units, both with a maximum speed of 125mph, so why should new trains be faster?
My suggestion would be fewer stops on key services (Honeybourne, Handborough, Slough?) and shorter waiting times at intermediate stations.
I suspect that without fully re-instating double track an hourly service may be more of a problem than a solution.
