ROLLER skating could be coming to Evesham this summer following the success of December’s ice rink.
The town council has announced provisional dates for a roller skating rink to be set up in Market Square during the school summer holidays.
It is hoped the rink would be open to the public on Friday and Saturday, July 30-31, from 10am-9pm and on Sunday, August 1, from 10am-5pm.
The idea, spearheaded by town councillor Martin Hammon, arose from the popularity of the temporary ice skating rink which attracted 1,100 visitors in three days.
He said: “I suspect the ice skating will be more popular this year and, when word gets out, we hope the roller skating will be popular too.”
Evesham mother Helen Donovan, who has been campaigning for a roller disco to be held in the town, welcomed the news. “Market Square is a great start but we’re going to see if we can still find somewhere to hold a roller disco that will be a regular attraction for young people in the town.”
Mrs Donovan is currently appealing for a venue which could be used to hold a roller disco. If you can help, call the Journal on 01386 444050.
