A DEBURRING tool developed by scientists at Pershore High School saw them win big at a national competition.

Saber, the creation of students Dominic Burr, Ben Carr and Stoyan Kostadinov, won first prize in the intermediate age category at the National Science and Engineering Competition in Manchester.

They also won the Nuffield Foundation & Clothworkers’ Foundation Best Maths Prize.

The trio developed the tool with the help of Luke Fowler, Darren Pepper and other staff at Allen Gears, as well as Head of Technology at the school, Neil Harding.

Mr Harding said: “It was a very challenging time for [the students] but they coped with everything amazingly well and learned a great deal. I firmly believe that the experience has excited and enthused them which, of course, was one of the main objectives behind the scheme.

“I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the superb work from our students and congratulate them on the first class outcomes that were created.”

Mr Harding also thanked Luke and Darren for their mentoring work and said he looked forward to working with Allen Gears again next year.
