EIGHT cycling servicemen, raising funds to help their injured colleagues, will be given a warm welcome when they stop off in Evesham this weekend.
The soldiers from 1st (United Kingdom) Armoured Division Headquarters and Signal Regiment will be making the diversion en route to Worcester Warriors’ Rugby Club as part of a 1,000-mile bike ride in aid of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Help for Heroes.
As part of the challenge, the group are carrying the match ball for the final of the Anglo Welsh Cup - which takes place at Worcester on Sunday (21) - and visiting all 17 rugby clubs taking part in the competition. They will present the ball to the referee before kick-off.
The team will be making a stop at Market Square this Sunday (21) at 10am, where members of Evesham’s RBL branch will be holding a bucket collection.
Branch chairman, Jeff King, said: “I would like to encourage hoards of people to go along and support these serving soldiers who in turn are trying to raise funds to support their injured colleagues and bereaved families of servicemen and women.”
