Four workers escaped without injury when an explosion blew a wall and roof off the Cotek paper factory in Draycott, near Moreton-in-Marsh, 22 years ago.

Windows of nearby houses were smashed and roof tiles were blown off by the explosion, which is thought to have been caused by the leakage of a solvent into a furnace. Residents living near the factory reported a loud explosion, which they said must have been heard for miles around.

The building was sealed off. About 50 people worked at Cotek, which produced paper goods for the food industry.

A company spokesman said the firm would be looking into safety measures to stop similar explosions ever happening again. (Picture from our 1988 files)
