A MUSIC festival hit the high notes as visitors flocked to experience the best of brass.

The Pershore Midsummer Brass Festival took place on Saturday and featured performances from 36 brass bands across the county and the surrounding areas.

This year’s theme for the event was a celebration of youth and featured bands from local schools including Prince Henry’s High School and Hallow CE Primary School.

The 12-hour event kicked off with a performance from more than 100 youngsters in Chapman Court, introduced by Mayor of Pershore Charles Tucker.

Across the town there were five venues, with free concerts by up and coming young musicians at Number 8 Community Arts Centre.

A world premiere also took place at Pershore Abbey featuring composer Philip Wilby.

“This is a project close to my heart,” said event organiser Councillor David Brotheridge.

“The day was brilliant and I’d like to thank the community for all their support and the volunteers who ensured the day was a great success.”

Attending at the event were Wychavon District Council chairman Gerry O’Donnell and Harriett Baldwin MP.

“It was a beautiful sunny day and it was fabulous to hear harmonies ringing out across the town,” said Mrs Baldwin.

“I am sure it has done a great deal to promote Pershore and I hope the town’s economy took a boost from all the extra visitors.”
