FIVE people said they were left “quite traumatised” when a blaze broke out in the cellar of a Pershore hair salon.

The fire began at Zoe Stock’s salon, Hairatage, Bridge Street, at about 6.10pm last Wednesday.

Miss Stock was in the salon alongside her mother, another stylist and two customers when they began to smell smoke and noticed it was coming up from the cellar, where the electrics were located for the building.

She said: “We were still working as I had just come back from holiday and we noticed a smell.

“It was coming up from a crack in the floor.

“We turned the electrics off and smoke was coming out quite badly so we evacuated and got the people who live upstairs out.

“As mum was leaving there was a massive bang.”

The fire was caused by an electrical fault in the cellar meaning Western Power had to isolate the electricity leaving houses along the road without power.

The road was also closed for two hours.

Miss Stock added: “I think though if we hadn’t been there it would’ve been a different story. We may not have a business.

“It was frightening. We are still in our first year of business.

“We are all quite traumatised from it. There is smoke damage and we will have to close at some point to repaint but at the moment we remain very much open for business.
