AT least six people have been targeted by scammers claiming to be a police officer in the last week.

Police are reminding people to be vigilant following what they are calling "an outbreak of courier theft incidents" in the Worcestershire area.

From 6pm on January 10 to 8pm on January 11 incidents were reported in the Callow End, Powick, and Lower Broadheath areas of people receiving calls from someone posing as a police officer who explains that the victim's bank card has been cloned, and asks them to contact their bank to give them their bank details.

When the victim calls their bank the line is left open and the offender can pick up their details, and shortly after a person posing as a courier will collect their card.

The most recent calls have been from a male claiming to be a Detective Constable or Sergeant Thomas from the Metropolitan Police, based at Holborn Police Station, although police warn this may change.

The suspect is described as being an Asian male in his mid-twenties, of average height and medium build, with black wavy hair and dressed in a fluorescent jacket.

Police will never ask for your bank details and remind people that if they are in doubt about the call to hang up.

Call police on 101 with information about this incident.
