NEW signage along a stretch of canal in Worcester hopes to get the community more involved with events taking place along the city's waterways.

The Worcester Canal Group adopted the stretch of canal between locks 4 and 5 in Sidbury from the Canal and River Trust in 2013.

Thanks to a boost in funding from the trust, the group were able to install the first of a number of new noticeboards which will be used to let people know more about the specific stretch of canal and events taking place around the canals and rivers of Worcester.

Green councillor Matthew Jenkins said: "The Worcester Canal Group would like to thank the Friends’ Fund from Canal and River Trust that allowed us to purchase the noticeboards. Installing noticeboards is one of a number of projects that we have planned for improving the stretch of canal that we have adopted between locks 4 and 5. We will use the noticeboards to inform people of upcoming events and other useful information. With the Water Festival along the canal in June this year, we feel that the canal in Worcester can be a great asset to the city.”
