POLICE seized piles of fake designer clothes and shoes from a house in Worcester today.
Officers were called to a house in the Warndon area of the city this morning and found a large amount of fake UGG boots and Nike Air Max trainers – genuine versions of which cost more than £100 a pair – as well as a range of items branded as Ralph Lauren, Superdry and Gucci.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “We were called to an address regarding something completely different and while we were there we found all of this”.
But he added the items were all of very poor quality copies and any astute shopper would easily be able to tell they were not genuine.
Police were unable to confirm how much the items would have sold for, but given the large quantity they could have netted the seller a decent sum.
The case has been referred to Worcestershire Regulatory Services – which encompasses the county’s Trading Standard division – for investigation.
Following the seizure police have appealed to members of the public to be alert when visiting markets and car boot sales for fake goods.
Any suspected selling of fake items can be reported to police on 101 or Worcestershire Regulatory Services on 0845 894 1008.
Reports can also be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.
