THE historic Hartlebury Castle will be taken over by the 'gorgeous Georgians' this half term.

Five days of Georgian-themed activities will be held at the castle, with the main event — a visit from King George and Queen Charlotte — taking place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25.

In 1788 King George III, Queen Charlotte and their children visited Bishop Hurd at his home at Hartlebury Castle, and visitors can now step back in time to that moment and learn more about their visit.

There will also be Georgian musicians playing in the Great Hall and demonstrations of Georgian dancing for people to join in with.

Families can also play Georgian style games including archery in the Carriage Circle, design their own Georgian teapot, find out about the medicine of the time, make their own wig or ladies fan, and dress up.

Pippa Ashmore, museum events officer, said: "This is our first Georgian themed event and we are really excited to have this chance to bring to life such an important event in the castle's history. The King and Queen's costumes are absolutely stunning and the music and dance will also bring the castle to life in a new way. There are plenty of hands on activities to get involved with and for just £13 for a family of four it's a great low cost way to spend a Bank Holiday."

The museum is also offering four days of fun Georgian themed children's craft activities from May 26 to May 29.

The main event takes place from 11am to 5pm.
