TWO Drakes Broughton brothers who had written to Evesham United Football Club asking them to rethink their ticket pricing for children have succeeded in getting it lowered.

James Andrews, 12, and his brother, Alex, 10, told the club they had gone to each home game last season that they could as it was free for under 16s, but discovered that the club was going to start charging £3 for over fives and under 16s for the 2015/16 season.

The hike meant they would not be able to go as often.

"What used to be a regular occurrence for us at £9 a game, would now turn into an occasional outing at £15 a game, meaning that you would lose out on the money from my dad's adult ticket for the vast majority of home games. Perhaps 'kids for a quid' would be more reasonable. We both feel that raising the under 16s prices from nothing to £3 to watch Evesham next season, is too much and would ask you to reconsider," they said.

"For the sake of comparison, to watch a Redditch United game next season, who are in the division above Evesham, would cost £14 for one adult and two under 16s. This is £1 cheaper than it would be to watch an Evesham United game for the upcoming season."

Father, Paul Andrews, said often there were a couple of his sons' friends with them which made the cost of the trip to the home football games £21 even before buying food and drinks.

"It will be a shame if they decide to keep the £3 price because we won't be able to go as often. I support the kid's for a quid idea if they really need to start charging for under 16s. I just think going straight to £3 is a bit steep," he said.

Evesham FC said the club always used to charge for under 16s but last year's free admission was an experiment to try and encourage more youngsters to go along to watch games. They said they decided to charge again because it was being abused with 17, 18 and sometimes 19-year-olds trying to get in for free. Under fives would continue to be free.

Club secretary Roger Westmacott said: "We are a business and need to make an income but we have had a look at other clubs in the same division and they all seem to be charging £2 for under 16s. Because of this we have reconsidered and decided to reduce our ticket price to £2 and hopefully this will mean the boys will be able to come along as often as last season."
