FOUR-wheeled transport is set to steal the show at the Severn Valley Railway this weekend as the attraction’s popular Classic Vehicle Day returns.

Sharing the limelight on this occasion, the SVR’s heritage locomotives will be taking passengers along the Railway’s 16-mile span to enjoy the array of classic vehicles of all shapes and sizes, on display at stations along the line.

More than 140 classics will be showcased during the day, with more than 100 being pre-1970 and nearly 40 of those dating from before 1950.

The oldest cars on display are expected to be a 1927 Austin and a rare 1926 Cluley at Kidderminster station; a 1929 Austin 12 Burnham and a 1924 Rolls-Royce at Arley station; a 1927 Rolls-Royce Coupe at Highley station and a 1928 Austin at Bridgnorth.

Clare Gibbard, the SVR’s marketing and communications, manager, said: “Our heritage steam locomotives will be sharing the spotlight with a fantastic range of classic cars spanning the decades for this popular event.

“There is a real emphasis on the stalwarts of British motoring this year, with a variety of stunning examples of some of the UK’s most famous marques, many hailing from right here in the Midlands, on display at stations all along the line.”

The Classical Vehicle Day will take place on Sunday (July 24). Public parking at Highley and Arley is suspended during the day.
