A MAN has been charged with a racial offence and assault at an Indian restaurant in Hay-on-Wye.

James John Jones, 31, will appear before Llandrindod Wells Magistrates Court later this week charged with four offences which happened during an incident at the Red Indigo restaurant in Castle Street at 11pm last Thursday night.

Jones, of Castle View, Hay-on-Wye is charged with assault, racially aggravated offence causing fear of violence, assault a police officer and two counts of resisting arrest.

Following his appearance at Brecon Magistrates Court on Saturday Jones was remanded in custody.

A second 39-year-old man from the Talgarth area, was arrested for criminal damage and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Temporary Chief Inspector for Powys, Matt Scrase said: “All racially motivated crime committed in the Dyfed Powys area is given the highest priority.  

“All specialist departments will work together to ensure any perpetrator is brought to justice to experience the full force of the law.  

“Any witnesses to this offence are urged to come forward to assist with the prosecution with these offences.”
