MORE than 1,000 residents across the Wyre Forest district have signed an online petition to prevent US president Donald Trump from making a state visit to the UK.
The petition, on the Government's official website, quickly reached the 100,000 signatures required to be considered for debate in parliament, with up to 1,000 people per minute logging on to show their support.
Currently, 1,093 residents in the Wyre Forest district have signed the petition - 1.1 per cent of the constituency's population.
The petition, created by Graham Guest on May 29, argues that allowing the new US president to make an official state visit would 'cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen'.
It states: "Donald Trump's well documented misogyny and vulgarity disqualifies him from being received by Her Majesty the Queen or the Prince of Wales.
"Therefore during the term of his presidency Donald Trump should not be invited to the United Kingdom for an official state visit."
But Downing Street has since confirmed that Theresa May will not be withdrawing her invitation to Mr Trump, as it remains “substantially in the national interest”.
