DOZENS of former employees of Littlewoods, which closed its doors in Worcester city centre two decades ago, have been sharing their memories of the much-loved store.

Earlier this month we reported that to mark 20 years since the store closed down, a reunion is being held at Archdales 73 Club in Windermere Drive, Warndon, at 7pm on Wednesday, January 24.

The event has been arranged by former staff, including one of the longest serving recruits, Susan Adams, who started working at Littlewoods in April 1970

Following the article, we received dozens of responses to the event both on our Facebook page and website.

Jo Kay said: “I worked there on Saturdays in the late 80s with Gwen preparing food for staff and customer restaurant, loved working there and grated a lot of cheese.

Gill Cox said: “I had a Saturday job there ‘66 was on the wool counter for a while. My sister Pat used to work in the restaurant late 50s early 60s.”

Pamela Stone said: “My first Saturday job was on the wool counter with Sonia Simpson when the store reopened after refurbishment in 1971, we had training with Mrs Hadley and Barbara Green was our supervisor.”

The store, which was located on the High Street, closed its doors in January 1998, after a takeover by Marks & Spencer.

Former members of staff met in December to help plan the event.

Those who would like to attend are being asked to pay £5 towards the cost of the event with any excess money donated to charity.

Staff members interested in taking part in the reunion are asked to contact Susan Adams by emailing adams478@btinternet.com.
