IT'S beginning to feel a lot like Christmas and this weekend the Cotswold village of Broadway will become even more festive.

On Friday night (Nov 28) the annual Broadway Tree of Light will be switched on in the village with each light paying tribute to a loved one who is no longer here this Christmas.

This year the appeal is raising money for the Save Broadway Library campaign and the village fire station.

The switch will take place alongside a carol service beginning at 6.30pm on the green.

The event coincides with the first late night Christmas shopping event in Broadway running from 5.30pm until 8.30pm.

Throughout the village shops will be getting in the seasonal spirit and staying open late giving people the chance to get some presents for their friends and family.

There will also be free parking after 3pm in all car parks.

This offer will also be in place in the village on Friday, December 5, for the second late night shopping event and on Saturday, December 13, it will cost 20p for three hours in short stay car parks.

Parish councillor Dominique Hardiman, tree of light organiser and treasurer of the Save Broadway Library campaign, said: "We chose the library and the fire station because they are both local to the village. The lights will remain on the tree until January 6 and were made possible thanks to the Broadway Hotel."

Cllr Hardiman added the library appeal group would be holding an open event on Saturday, November 29, at the library from 2pm until 5pm and again at Tisanes Tea Rooms in Broadway on Saturday, December 6, from 7pm until 9pm, to pass on information about the campaign to villagers.

Christmas activity will carry on with the Broadway Music Makers Christmas Concerts at Lifford Hall Broadway on Wednesday and Thursday, December 10 and 11.

The concerts start at 7.30pm and tickets, available at Shopwright Post Office and the Tourist Information Centre, cost £7, with proceeds going to Broadway Youth Club and The Nomads Social Club.
