BLOCKLEY retained their West Clubs Women’s Hockey League Severn Division One leadership with an 8-2 thrashing of East Gloucester.

They produced a strong display from the start and opened the scoring within the first few minutes due to a fine strike by player-of-the-match Sabrina Rew.

This was shortly followed by a second goal after Fiona Drinkwater made a superb run from the halfway line.

Now on a roll, Blockley extended their lead to 4-0 as Rew scored another two goals to secure her hat-trick.

The hosts continued to attack the opposition and scored yet again due to a strike from Debbie Honour.

This was followed up shortly after as Drinkwater gained her second of the match.

East Gloucester fought back and found their way through the Blockley defence to net their first of the game.

But the hosts responded and pushed forward, resulting in Drinkwater completing her hattrick.

The visitors managed to net again just before the break to be 7-2 behind following a goalladen first period.

Both teams came out fighting in the second period with play being more equal.

Blockley’s defence of captain Sam Jones, Katy Hill, Kitty Boyes and Angela Reading-East managed to block any attacking runs from East Gloucester.

Before the end of the half, Drinkwater completed the scoring.

Third-from-bottom Bourton and Sherborne go into the derby on the back of a 6-2 thumping at Newent seconds.
