PERSHORE Town pushed Athium Midland Combination Premier Division title-favourites Walsall Wood all the way before losing 2-1.
The high-flying visitors went ahead on 15 minutes through Shawn Boothe’s header but Phil Marsh was foiled by the keeper at the other end before being brought down for a penalty.
A good save denied Steve Webb, however, just before half-time a Matt Tyler freekick was headed powerfully into the top corner by Dane Aldington.
Pershore defended stoutly in the second period but conceded to Jamie Hawkins 12 minutes from time before having a player sent off.
They were then soundly beaten 5-1 at Southam last weekend, conceding the opener to a chip after seven minutes following a defensive error.
Aldington headed narrowly wide and Scott Finnegan shot just past the post, while keeper Matthew Oliver denied Southam at the other end.
But the hosts took a firm hold on the game in the second-half with four goals although Danny James pulled one back with a spotkick.
Pershore hold their annual open day on Saturday, May 18, from 9.30am with junior player trials in the morning at King George V Playing Field alongside skills sessions and other competitions.
There will be a junior team presentation in the afternoon and an evening family disco.
