EVESHAM lost their second North Midlands Colts League game in a row with a below par performance away to Wolverhampton.

The visitors did come away with a losing bonus point in the 19-16 defeat but they were out-muscled in a dour game in wet conditions.

Evesham started well and went ahead following a scrum, from which Ash Charlton timed an excellent pass for Ash Icke to crash over the whitewash. Charlton missed the conversion.

With both sides conceding penalties, a place-kicking battle unfolded either side of half-time. Wolverhampton won this four kicks to two, leaving the score 12-11 in the hosts’ favour with 20 minutes to play. James Bishop and Charlton slotted Evesham’s two goals.

The tension mounted and tempers started to fray as both teams went for the victory.

Evesham thought they had it when Nat Bailey seized on a loose ball at the lineout, charged forward and Fred Hopper touched down.

The conversion was missed and Wolverhampton forced their way upfield to score a converted try of their own to take the match.

  • Evesham Under 15s followed up a cup win at Shrewsbury with a 30-7 league win at Stow.

There was another fine performance from number eight Kieran Raymer along with Jack Richardson, captain Josh Hartland, Lewis Woodford and Nathan Cotton.
