DEBBIE Honour scored a hat-trick as Blockley Ladies recorded a resounding 7-3 victory at BAC Ladies in the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League North Division.

Following promotion last season, Blockley came into their third game of the season on the back of two defeats but with a positive attitude.

The away team pressed hard from the start, resulting in the first goal of the game being scored by Fiona Drinkwater.

Play continued to move from end to end with BAC breaking through the solid Blockley defence but being thwarted by goalkeeper Claire Miles.

Player-of-the-match Sam Jones worked hard in midfield stretching the play out to the wings and closing down the hosts.

Blockley continued to attack which resulted in a short corner and a goal scored at the far post by Donna Whitehouse, who then added a second to give the visitors a 3-0 advantage at half-time.

BAC came out strongly after the interval and made Blockley work harder.

But it wasn’t long before the visitors extended their lead further with a first-time shot from Honour that found the bottom right corner.

Blockley pressed hard and quickly found the back of the net again through Lindsay Hay, quickly followed by another strike from Honour to extend the lead to 6-0.

BAC continued to press and broke through the Blockley defence to pull one goal back, only for Honour to complete her hat-trick and restore her side’s six-goal cushion. The hosts scored another goal and converted a penalty flick with five minutes remaining. Blockley take on Lansdown on Saturday at Prince Henry’s High School (10am push-back).

  • Badsey lost 3-1 at Bromsgrove in Worcestershire League Division One.

The hosts started stronger and gave the Badsey defence problems but player-of-thematch Rachel Curtis made some good saves.

Once they had settled down, the visitors dug in and cleared their lines through Karen Moore and Rachel Sadler, allowing the midfield to build a platform for the attacking trio of Karen Robinson, Lynne Ellarby and Fi Jordan.

Bromsgrove, however, made their pressure tell by taking the lead before halftime and they added two more goals after the break.

Badsey reduced the deficit through Robinson.
