JOSH Tongue's impressive form on tour for England Lions has earned him a place in the squad for the upcoming One-Day International series with Sri Lanka.

Tongue is already a member of the Lions squad for the two Tests in Galle and picked up four wickets in the three-day fixture against a Board XI in Colombo on Thursday.

But now he will also be part of the set-up for three ODIs in Colombo on February 15, 18 and 21.

It has been a difficult past year for the pace bowler but he is now reaping the rewards of sticking at it, with more international recognition.

Worcestershire Head Coach, Alan Richardson, said: "Really pleased that Josh is going to have more recognition with the Lions.

"Any experience he gains like this will only benefit him going forward with his career. But it is also pleasing for everyone at the club who has played their part in getting him back to fitness.

"We’ve always known his potential, and he has been unfortunate to have a few injury setbacks.

"But Josh worked so hard to get back to playing last summer, and he continued that during the winter programme."

It is not just Tongue who has been representing Worcestershire out in Sri Lanka.

Jack Haynes is also in the squad and he made it back-to-back half centuries in the game with Board XI on Friday.

Having posted 64* on day one of the test, Haynes went and scored 51 from 71 deliveries to help England recover from 151-8 in the second innings.

Haynes and Lancashire’s Josh Bohannon (50) came to the rescue with a ninth-wicket stand of 98 in 21 overs.

The duo eventually fell in the space of three balls to Sri Lankan pace bowler Isitha Wijesundera.

Haynes was last out with the total on 250 from 47.4 overs. Board XI then successfully chased down the total to win.

Haynes struck five boundaries to give him a match aggregate of 115 runs for once out on his Lions debut and ideal preparation for the forthcoming two Tests on this tour.
