TROY Wood is expected to partner Mark Owen at Corby Town on Saturday when Evesham United bid to extend their undefeated Southern League Premier Division sequence to seven games, writes Mervyn Collins.

Gary Hay is on a family trip to America and misses the first of three matches while Paul West has released Danny Lennon.

“He’s been super for us and is a smashing lad but everything runs its course,” the Evesham boss declared.

“Troy looks a long way from full fitness as he hasn’t played too many matches at Worcester and we must be careful not to push him too hard.”

West has also allowed Leon Woodley to join Bromsgrove on a month’s loan leaving his squad a little short with captain Steve Lutz on crutches after suffering a stress fracture of his foot when he fell at home.

And, the United chief has admitted that he has been making a few calls this week in a bid to bolster his squad with another striker the top priority.

Corby lie third in the table having lost just two games - that’s just one fewer than leaders Farnborough and the same as the Robins.

Town are the section’s joint top scorers along with Gloucester City with 31 and have the joint second best defensive record in the top flight.

The Northamptonshire side have let in just nine goals, two more than Hemel Hempstead and two fewer than West’s men.

The Robins won on their last league visit to Corby and drew 2-2 in the FA Trophy last season.

Either result would be another boost to West’s hopes of a play-off spot at the end of the season, while three points at home to Banbury United on Tuesday night will also help that particular cause.
