PERSHORE Swimming Club members smashed a ton of personal bests, 17 first, 16 seconds and 11 third places at their latest Nuneaton Junior League match.

They had pipped Tamworth by two points on 243pts. This was the first win in the Nuneaton League for them and together with their second place from the first leg, Pershore lie in joint second place from the 18 clubs in their division. Pershore made a fine start in the first five events. First places were recorded by Tazmin Pugh and a second by Drew Jones in their 10-year age 50-metre freestyle, Hannah Simister first and Tyler Mclean first in their nine-year 25m breast and first in the fifth event.

The girls’ 11/u medley relay, comprising Lizzie Vizard (19.97) who swam her leg as a backstroke, Laura Snape (22.48) breaststroke, Alison Seward (19.63) butterfly, Tessa Carr (17.74 free) Pershore notched up a time of one minute 19.82 seconds.

In the boys’ 11/u 4x100m medley third went to Michael Evans (20.66) backstroke, Jack Betteridge (24.84) breaststroke, Adam Palin (19.52) butterfly, Callum Sanderson (18.65) freestyle 1.23.67.

Another two second places came in the 12/u 50m back for Katie Sharratt 41.35 and Angus Jones 40.35.

Seward finished third in her individual 12/u 50m butterfly (43.16) with Angus Jones going one better with second 12/u 50m butterfly (43.88). The girls and boys’ 10/u medley relays recorded another two second places. Seward was second with 42.91 and Joseph Doyle (39.89) in their 10/u backstroke events.

Simister led out the nine year 4x100m freestyle relay with 23.17 handing over to Mia de Toit (28.10), Amy Weston (21.62) and Beth Snape (25.19) came home in third place with 1.38.08.

The nine-year boys’ freestyle relay gained a second place with 1.29.33 of James Bower (21.95), Ben Doyle (23.27), McLean (17.66) and Isaac Stephens (26.45). Harry Sykes entered the fray in his first of many swims of the evening with a first placed finish 41.12.

In the 10/u freestyle relays another second and first from the girls and boys respectively at the halfway point gave Pershore (176) a one-point lead over Tamworth (175). It was then Tamworth began recording a few wins themselves in the boys 11/u and girls nine-year Pershore coming in third and fourth though Pugh won by half-a-length with 38.65 in her 50m 11/u butterfly and McLean 20.09 for the nine-year 25m butterfly. In the second half of the event Pershore stormed through to win the tie.
