VALE of Evesham martial artists had a great chance to impress with five British and UK Open champions competing on their doorstep, at London Chinatown Tae Kwon Do’s annual Bredon Hill Cup, held in Ashton-under-Hill.

The competition is decided upon best performance over three categories, sparring, patterns and best moves.

Vale youngster Nik Papacostantinou, who was runner-up last year, went one better with a popular win after taking the junior sparring and patterns golds. England team member Dee Milbery showed her class once again by beating two male British champions on the way to winning the adult sparring title.

Newcomer Brad Maber, from Tewkesbury, took the best moves award, after breaking a board over nine foot off the ground.

Chief instructor Neil Hall said: “It’s great that with so many students and supporters locally, we can put on an event of this standard right here in the Vale of Evesham.”

Papacostantinou is already preparing for next month’s event when he fights at another major competiton in London’s Chinatown before heading to the Verve UK Open later in the month.
